So why do many people finally believe that Watchmen is so timeless and gripping? There’s certainly a few solid reasons to consider. The film may have received plenty of praise, but was never fully appreciated the way it deserved to be for challenging people’s perceptions on right and wrong. The story is a much darker adaptation of the standard superhero stories people were accustomed to for its time, and was eventually adapted into a film in 2009 by Zack Snyder. Labeled as a limited comic series, Watchmen detailed a former team of heroes in the 1980’s in an alternate history where the word is on the brink of nuclear war and the extinction of humanity as we know it. When Watchmen was created by Alan Moore in 1986, he probably didn’t predict the impact it would have on pop culture as well as the general medium of comic books but decades later it’s still very much alive and thriving. Who watches the Watchmen? The answer should be everyone because of the gritty, noir inspired film with a sometimes bleak attitude and timeless story of the struggling state of the world.
